Here is how you clean 5 common carpet stains

Carpet care involves little more than simple carpet cleaning with a vacuum. Often times you will be faced with a mess made by one of the kids or perhaps even your pet. Stains are the bane of every carpet out there, as they can become permanent and remain visible. It is not pleasant if the first thing your guests see is a nasty stain right in the middle of the carpet. Therefore, learning how to deal with the most common carpet stains is an important skill, which you need to develop. Only then you can rest assured you will apply the right carpet cleaning technique when needed. 









Here is what you should consider:

  • Pet accidents – if you have a pet, you will want to train them well so that your carpets are safe. However, sometimes your furry friend may leave a mess, which you need to clean. Before anything else, tackle the initial mess. If it is of liquid type, blot the area with a cloth or a paper towel until there is little left. For solid debris, use a plastic bag to pick up. After that, use a carpet cleaner designed to take care of pet stains. Finally, you need to deal with the stench. Mix together one part vinegar and one part water. Wet the area and let it sit for a few minutes before blotting dry.
  • Blood – sometimes you may cut yourself and blood could end up on the carpet. Rinse the stain with cold water. Bear in mind that warm and hot water causes the blood to coagulate, making it nearly impossible to remove. Next, blot with water and 2 tsp dishwashing liquid. Be persistent till the blood lifts off.
  • Coffee – coffee is many people’s most favourite drink. If you make no exception, you have to learn how to remove coffee stains. First, blot with a clean towel and then apply a mix of liquid detergent with water to lift the remaining stain. Continue to blot with vinegar/warm water mix till the coffee is completely removed from the fibres.
  • Ink – ink is not as common as some of the other stains, but it is quite dangerous because it can quickly become permanent. The most effective solution to use is alcohol. Soak a cloth and start blotting, but be careful not to spread the stain around. Rinse the area with water thoroughly once the stain is lifted.
  • Mud – mud stains are common enough around entry areas. Cleaning them should take place only after the mud has dried. Vacuum the lumps and get blotting. First, apply a mix of detergent and water and then some water/ammonia. Before you vacuum the area, make sure the mud is gone; or else you risk burying the dirt deeper into the fibers.
